I was thrilled to find this piece, Cazemovia Lake, by local legend Grandma Moses hanging in the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse this weekend. It presents such a classic beautiful Moses winter scene. I always love her landscapes but I also found myself drawn to the faces in this painting. Her people seem to be so warmly drawn, you can feel the love she felt for them. I think her work is still so appealing because we wish we could experience the times she depicts – a simpler and perhaps warmer time, even in the winters.
This notice describes how Grandma Moses was discovered by art dealer Louis J. Caldar in 1938 here in Hoosick Falls, NY. It sounds like Louis also immediately appreciated her genius for painting life not as it is, but as we wish it to be.
Hello – years ago I had a print of this painting ‘Cazemovia Lake’. Is it possible to purchase another one these days? Thanks
I’m sorry, I don’t know – I’d recommend searching online and/or contacting the museum in Syracuse.
I have a print of this, in excellent condition, if you are still interested.
I’m very interested in a copy of this print!
