Orange Mood by Helen Frankenthaler

Frankenthaler said “I think of my pictures as explosive landscapes, worlds and distances, held on a flat surface.”  According to the notes at The Whitney, in this piece, the zones of color recall different emotional states.  Similar to Rothko’s work, Frankenthaler’s work seems to reverberate with emotional power in person, in ways no photo can quite capture.
